New ID Cards?
How about Penn Foster creating legit looking plastic credit card type and sized ID cards instead of the paper ones? The ID should at least have our Picture (our choice amongst our uploaded ones), Our First and Last Names, Course(s) we are attending, Student ID # and of course the Penn Foster Logo with hologram seal on the front with the Penn Foster Contact Information on the back. All other colleges and universities I know have had that for a long time. How can we be taken serious in that department if we do not have the professional look in that aspect? What do you think? Let's help Penn Foster see that this is something important to us, their loyal students!

Help on Electronic medical records 12-11
For Electronic Medical Records exercise 12-11, we have to create a remainder statement for Michael Syzmanski, but I have been unable to make one for him. I have the program on the correct date, he is the guarantor for Hannah. What do I need to do to get this fixed so there is a remainder statement for him?
student membership to AAPC
I was told and read that we are supposed to get student membership to AAPC thru Penn Foster. Do we get membership cards or something to reflect this? Thanks Tobie

High School Online Textbook FAQ
Penn Foster is modifying the way it delivers textbooks to students in the High School Program. This document seeks to answer some common questions related to these modifications.
Q: What changes are taking place in the High School Program with regards to online textbooks?
A: As a high school student, you will now have the option to access textbooks in a digital format instead of receiving a printed version through the mail. The Ebooks will be accessible through the VitalSource platform. http://online.vitalsource.com
Q: What special features do online textbooks have?
A: You will have the ability to speed up your search for keywords, get organized with notes and highlighters, share notes and highlights with friends or publicly, improve your referencing with citation, download to your computer/laptop and or/onto a mobile device for access whenever you need it, adjust font size and book layout, and even share pages with others while studying online. Video tutorials and support are available at http://support.vitalsource.com
Q: Why is Penn Foster providing this option?
A: In a recent survey of our High School students, the majority indicated they would prefer to access their textbooks online or on their mobile devices, and many indicated their academic progression was delayed while they were waiting to receive textbooks in the mail. We want to provide options to you to help you learn the way you want to learn.
Q: Is there a difference in cost?
A: No. The price will remain the same regardless if you choose online textbooks or physical textbooks in the mail.
Q: Will this option be available in all high school programs?
A: No. Three programs will have the online textbook option: High School, High School with Healthcare Concentration and High School with Early College.
Q: Will all of the Elective courses that use a textbook have an online textbook option?
A: No. There are 4 Elective courses which do not offer online textbooks. They are Economics, American Literature, Art Appreciation and Music Appreciation. If you choose from these electives, you will receive a textbook in the mail. The other 29 electives offer the online textbook option.
Q: When will this option be available?
A: This option will be live starting on November 13th, 2014.
Q: Can existing students enrolled in the three High School programs that will offer online textbooks choose this delivery format for the remainder of their program?
A: Yes. Existing students in the regular High School program, high school with a concentration in healthcare, and high school with early college electives can contact our Student Care department at 1.888.427.1000. Student Care will have the ability to switch your textbook delivery method. If a textbook has already shipped you will use that book for the course and the next course requiring a textbook will be available on CourseSmart. You will not have the ability to return textbooks to Penn Foster.
Q: Will the option for online textbooks be available to students enrolled in our B2B programs?
A: We are currently discussing possible CourseSmart partnerships for students in Job Corps and High School Completion programs.
Q: How long will a student have access to the online textbooks?
A: You will have access to the online textbooks for 3 years from the time you first access the book through VitalSource. The dates you first open the textbook will be visible on VitalSource bookshelf.
Q: Will students be able to access and read online textbooks for courses that they have not started?
A: No, you will only be allowed to access the online textbooks for the course you are currently in or have completed. This is effectively no change from the current process.
Q: Can students purchase the printed textbooks in addition to the online textbooks? If so where can they be purchased?
A: Penn Foster will not have the ability to sell a printed textbook to the students at this time. You may go to Amazon or another book supplier to purchase a copy of the printed version of the online textbook.
Q: On what type of devices can the online textbooks be read? Is an app required to read these online textbooks on iPads, phones or other mobile devices?
A: VitalSource currently offers device specific downloadable mobile applications for the following: iPad®, iPhone®, Android™ smartphones, tablet, or Kindle Fire. They offer an online accessible Mobile Web app for the following: Android tablets with operating systems 4.0 and higher. Kindle Fire 2, HD, or HDX model. Hi my name is melissa
Hello everyone
I am new to this community and testing this out. I have been a vet tech for 5 years and want to become licensed. I was wondering if it is okay to do the program on my tablet. Also what are the rules for logging into the community, friends of mine have been saying you will not pass unless you log in?
Thanks
Melissa

Announcing the 2nd Annual PFHS Writing Competition!
(Image courtesy of WRITING UPDATE: What Am I Focusing On Now? - Kari J. Wolfe)
Last year (2014) was the beginning of a very exciting event here at Penn Foster High School, as we launched our very first writing competition! We had a relatively small pool of submissions, but it was truly a pleasure to see so many of our students get excited about writing and about sharing that writing with the world! It was also an honor to announce our winners and put their prizes in the mail. We had a lot of fun, and we suspect our students did, too.
It was so much fun that we're doing it again!!!
Our second annual Penn Foster High School Writing Competition is open to all Penn Foster High School students, regardless of age, lesson average, and/or current course. If you're a brand-new student or if you've been with us for a while and are about to graduate, you can still enter. If you are enrolled in Penn Foster High School and you're excited about writing, we hope you’ll join us!
Here's what you need to know:
Categories:
Fiction - Entries up to 2500 words will be accepted
Nonfiction - Entries up to 2500 words will be accepted
Poetry - Entries up to 50 lines will be accepted
(The winner in each category will receive a prize!)
Theme:
This year’s theme is…
"the world could be a better place"
You can offer a true account of your ideas (nonfiction), create characters and situations that demonstrate your thoughts (fiction), or compose a poem that encapsulates your ideas. Your interpretation, approach, and style are entirely up to you... as long as you make sure to address the theme.
(Please note that any entry that does not address the theme will be disqualified.)
Judges:
Your three Penn Foster High School English instructors (Alanna Bright, Meghan Lodge, and natalie.goodwin) will be included in a panel of judges. Participants will include Penn Foster employees from various backgrounds, as well as a few qualified judges from outside of the company. Your name and student number will not be passed on to the judges; your work will be judged on its own merit.
Prizes:
The first-place winner in each category will receive a gift card and a certificate of achievement. All students who participate will be recognized with certificates of participation.
Submissions:
We will once again be accepting submissions via email during the entire month of April. You may submit as many times as you would like; there is no limit.
Please keep in mind that all submissions should be entirely original, and any submission found to be plagiarized will be eliminated from the competition.
Starting TODAY, you can send your submission(s) to HSwritingcontest@pennfoster.com. Be sure to send each submission as an ATTACHMENT (.rtf, .doc, and .docx are preferred), not in the body of an email.
If you have questions about this competition, please either post them in the Comments section below.
That's it!
Get your ideas together... and START WRITING!
Prewriting Classification and division?
hello everyone,
I have been submitting and resubmitting my graphic organzier the whole month of July and now August! With having an anxiety disorder this is making me feel very discouraged and even more stressed! I submitted it after my second return to the smart thinking tutoring and they helped me i made the revision and then submitted it back to the English department yet I still got my paper returned for more revisions so now I just recently resubmitted it to the smart thinking tutoring!
Am I the only one who keeps getting this assignment back for revision?
Staying hopeful!
I don't think I understand what this whole community thing is about.
What am I supposed to do with this? What's the point of it?
